My memories of photoschool were the best. I went in 1978 or 1979 and still practice photography today. My wife often comments that she has the best of "second hand" navy training. PH2 Malkiewicz http://www.everafterimages.com
Thanks for the pictures posted showing the school building. Attended from July 1959, started class in September 1959 (class 59-38)graduated February 1960. Lots of fond memories of NATTU. One of a legally blind man by the name of Jimmy who ran the Gedunk. Thanks for the memories. Jim Diaz
I went through PH "A" school here from Nov.'62 to June 10,'63. Then went to PIC in Suitland, Md which soon became NRTSC. Enjoyed the school, but not the sunburn.
I graduated photo school in 1953 as AFAN. Anyone remember the mid air collision over the base? Wreckage everywhere! Finished as PH1 in '57 after WestPac cruise.
Graduated March 1964 came back in 65 for b school. Greatest photo training available anywhere. Was there when Pres. Kennedy was assisinated. Mike Floyd former PH1
I enlisted in June, 1951, went to Airman A school at JAX, then chose photography A school at NAS Pensacola. Served on a destroyer tender, USS Frontier (AD-25), where I relieved a WW II reservist and ran the lab, taking many ID photos, but also battle damage on destroyers. Finished my enlistment at PH-2 and used the GI Bill to begin my academic career. I remember Floyd Smith from Kansas City, and met up with him once in Yokosuka. But age dims my memories of Pensacola & classmates. Best wishes to anyone who remembers my name. Hoyt Greeson, Sudbury, ON, Canada
I went there Dec '73 f/A-school, then again in '76 for most of B-school. Lots of great memories. How do I find out what class I was in? BTW, I completed A-school about 4wks early, so I got to take the QC B-school unit. Great blog! Thanks again -Will Rhyins PH2
I attended "A" School in 1971 and then "C" School in 1977. I remember Chief Wheeler from both times. He was always smoking a cigar. PO Bachman was the hard instructor in 1971. He was a good guy though. I can't remember the beautiful instructor's name but something like PO Appleton or something like that. I remember shooting pictures in the old fort before it was a Park.
I went to A school in the summer of 78. Hands down the best time of my life. Are there any websites, discussion boards, facebook pages where old photomates go to gather? e-mail the link if so photog66@att.net
George GreenPH3 went to school there in 1964 class 344 PH1 Swope was or leader. Had the best time of my young life there. Does anybody remember what they used that periscope for? They would watch us as we marched from the baricks to the school. What a time never thought I would miss it.
I went to both ground and aerial school the summer of 59 as a reserve than spent two years at Norfolk, VA at Atlantic Fleet Photo Triangulation Group known as the "Camera Party" . Than Operation Spring Board., and than 'Spacecraft Retreval' for Project Mercury''s Man In Space Program. Loved every minute of it but fell in love with the girl back home and got out to start a family and loved every minute it of it ....and still do. God is Great.
I went to PH "A" School March to July 1967. Class 710. Found the old class picture taken in front of the school. Got to use my new found talent aboard a sub tender USS Hunley AS31. Charleston SC to Guam M.I. and stopping in Hawaii on way back. Went through Panama Canal (a real highlight). Best job in the Navy back then. Made it to PH2. Photography is a hobby now. Married with 2 boys both U S Navy vets. I wish I had taken more pictures.
